Access Statement
INTRODUCTION
We warmly welcome anyone to Keelman’s Lodge. The following statement is a summary of our provision. We have facilities to cater for disabled access. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Pre-Arrival
The Keelman’s Lodge is a purpose-built accommodation lodge which stands in its own grounds on the edge of the Tyne Riverside Country Park, consisting of 2 buildings on the same site. Rooms 1 o 6 are in a single storey building referred to as “The Keelman’s Lodge”, rooms 7 to 14 are in a 2 storey building referred to as “Salmon Cottage”. Only 5 miles from Newcastle and 3 miles from the Metro Centre, it is easily accessible by both public and private transport and 10 minutes from Newcastle Airport.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
There are plenty of parking spaces outside the Lodge on a tarmac driveway and disabled parking bays for three vehicles. The disabled parking bays are in short proximity to Keelman’s Lodge. There is ample room for getting out of and into a vehicle. There is a dropped kerb for easy access.
Access to Keelman’s Lodge
Keelman’s Lodge is a single storey lodge consisting of 6 rooms all with en suite facilities. Each room contains 1 double and 1 single bed, with a cot available on request.
Access to Keelman’s Lodge can be gained following a paved walkway with a slight decline and a dropped kerb to accommodate wheelchair users.
Access to Keelman’s Lodge Guest Accommodation
The main doorway into the guest accommodation leads to a small lobby area measuring approx 2040m x 1500m
All rooms are ground floor level. Each room has a double and single bed, except Room 1 whcih is adapted for wheelchair users and contains 1 double and 2 single beds. All rooms have en-suite facilities. Standard in all rooms are LCD digital colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a small coffee table approx 720mm, with two chairs, approx 470mm, and a dressing table approx 600mm, with mirror.
Access to adapted en-suite
Keelman’s Lodge have a specially adapted room for wheelchair users, disabled parking is in short proximity to this room.
- Room dimensions are approximately 3690mm x 4935mm.
- The door from the lobby to the bedroom is approx 775mm wide.
- The room consists of one double bed approx 620mm high and a single bed approx 620mm.
- The gap between the wall and the double bed is approx 425mm, between the double bed and single bed is approx 640mm and the single bed to the wall is approx 390mm.
- The bedside wall mounted reading lights have wall mounted switches.
- Single wardrobe.
- Smoke detectors.
Adapted en-suite bathroom
- The door from the bedroom to the bathroom is approx 800mm wide.
- The floor area measures approx 1450m x 1660m
- There are four handrails in various positions in the bathroom to aid stability.
- Standard bath with standard taps and shower, shower curtain. Bath height 540mm.
- Standard toilet. Toilet height approx 430mm
- The mirror is above the basin and has a wall mounted light with pull cord above it.
- For extra comfort there is a bathroom stool, approx 440mm in height.
Double rooms with en-suite bathroom
The doors from the lobby to the rooms are approx 770mm wide.
- The room consists of one double bed approx 620mm high and a single bed approx 620mm high. An additional “pull-down” small single bed is also available on request.
- Reading lamps on wall with switches on wall.
- Single wardrobe and luggage rack.
En-suite bathroom
- The door from the bedroom to the bathroom is approx 700mm wide.
- Standard bath with standard taps and shower, shower curtain. Bath height approx 540mm.
- Standard toilet. Toilet height approx 430mm
- The mirror is above the basin and has a wall mounted light with pull cord above it.
- Tiled flooring and walls.
Lighting
All rooms and the lobby are well lit, and pleasantly decorated.
Meals
Access to dining area from Keelman’s Lodge. Meals are taken in the Keelman Pub conservatory.
Access to the dining area is adjacent to Keelman’s Lodge, via a 1210mm door with a 30mm lip, alternatively use the conservatory entrance, through double glass doors, width of the door is approximately 1600mm, the step is approximately 110mm high.
Access to Salmon Cottage
Salmon Cottage is a two storey lodge offering 8 bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. Each room contains 1 king-size bed. A cot is available on request.
Access to Salmon Cottage can be gained following a paved walkway with a slight decline, the walkway measures 1960mm wide.
The width of the entrance door to Salmon Cottage is 850mm. The distance from the entrance to the stone staircase measures approximately 5 metres.
Internally in the centre of the hallway is a stone staircase, comprising of 15 steps. These steps are approx 190mm deep, 260mm wide.
Access to Salmon Cottage Guest Accommodation
On each side of ground floor staircase there are two rooms, the hallways leading to these rooms measure approximately 890mm wide, there are radiators each side of the staircase on the outside walls.
On each side of the upper ground staircase there are two rooms, the hallways leading to these rooms measure approximately 975mm wide. There is no lift in this building.
All rooms on the ground and upper ground floors have a king size double bed and en suite facilities. Standard in all rooms are LCD digital colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a small coffee table approx 720mm, with two chairs, approx 470mm, and a dressing table approx 600mm, with mirror.
King size double rooms with en-suite bathroom
- The doors from the landing to the bedroom are approx 775mm wide.
- There are two bedside tables with bedside lighting with pull cords.
- The beds are king size approx 560mm height.
- Rooms have either double or single wardrobes.
- Smoke detectors in each room.
- Double patio doors approx 470mm opening inwards to a Juliet Balcony.
- Self closing fire doors
En-suite bathroom
- The doors from the bedroom to the bathroom are approx 700mm wide.
- Standard bath with standard taps and shower, shower curtain. Bath height approx 540mm
- Standard toilet. Toilet height approx 403mm
- Standard washbasin, mirror, light with pull cord. Basin height approx 790mm
- Pull cord for lights.
- Tiled flooring and walls.
Lighting
All rooms and hallways are well lit, and pleasantly decorated.
Meals
Meals are taken in the Keelman Pub conservatory. Access to dining area from Salmon Cottage.

No Smoking Policy
Keelman’s Lodge & Salmon Cottage operates a no smoking policy. There is a smoking bin outside The Keelman’s Lodge approx 1280mm from the ground, situated near the entrance on the wall. There is also a smoking bin outside Salmon Cottage.
